Kids with sticks have fun!

As children we learn how to speak before we learn how to read and write. The concept of this book is the same, it is providing your children with songs they can learn to play effortlessly by following colours. The reading of music notes then follows what the body is already moving and thus it is simple and logical because they can already play it.

Kids With Sticks is a drum program designed to get you playing music straight away. After teaching drums for years at a primary school level I couldn’t understand why my students were struggling so much with what I was presenting to them. Then it came to me that they simply couldn’t understand the notation. They couldn’t read and therefore progress with what I was presenting to them. The barrier was the formal black and white notation.

So, I introduced coloured notes to the stave, meaning each drum was a different colour and their drumming world changed. Now it is my drum students who reach for the music notation charts first.

Kids With Sticks is a Music program stripped back to only include what is needed to get you started and experiencing what it is like to play music in a band setting.

What’s included in the program is a tuition book, a charts book, drum cards, and access to the app. The app is where you find the audios and videos. The video series goes through each page of the tuition book expanding in explanation and demonstrating what to do. Essentially the next best thing to a one-on-one lesson.

The audio series is your band that you practise to. It is recommended that you watch the videos and follow the instructions provided in each video lesson.
