Based on my experience the factor that really developed my playing was regularity. For the age group that I have targeted with my educational books and programs, I have developed a set list (a list of songs to play). Regular playing is the key. Music doesn’t need to be studied as much as it is structured in contemporary music education. If you simply want to play why not simply play? However the question is what to play and where to start if you simply want to play?
This is where Kids With Sticks is a great tool. Songs specifically written to develop one skill and to put it into practical use in contemporary sounding rock and pop songs. Songs written to experience how simple things done well sound great, feel great and are not complicated.
